I played with this thought for quite a while. Finally, I decided to actually do something about it. With this post I will start a blog.
When I started out with “the Internet” when I was basically a kid - in the 90s - there was not much content other than from universities’ students and professors, and a few people. There was no facebook, no twitter and no WhatsApp. And webspace was a scarce resource - in regard to disk space available, to bandwidth, and also actual server capacity. In fact, the first website of my own was hosted on a lengthy URL of our local university, on an account that belonged to my school’s informatics teacher. And it came with a lengthy, non-rememberable URL. And some /cgi-bin/s with cryptic Perl syntax buried inside.
This blog is hosted on a decentralized network of servers around the world, with nearly (& technically) unlimited bandwith capacity - limited by my wallet, actually - with locations around the globe, available to anyone for a fraction of the price of earlier times. Interestingly, it is a static website, so required less server compute power than my first one.
Times have changed. The Internet is full of content - important and not so, good and not so, unique and not so. Sites like Youtube, Instagram and Snapchat have recently established new types of carreer - Influencers. The questions is what can I add to that?
To start out, I like to answer this question in a rather self-centric way. I write this blog in order to improve my writing skills and to build an archive of ideas and knowledge that I can look into at a later time to just remember what’s been. I do not plan to persue any personal or biographic topics. I’ll write in English, and that’s the language of the ’net I know.
I am curious how it goes.
