With 2023 coming to an end - there is something for a New Year’s resolution:
I’m not a believer that good habits start with a new year’s resolution. However, mine will be about breaking a habit. I admit that I spend too much time on TikTok. Contrary to its image you can actually learn somehing from very different areas (cooking, lifehacks, general knowledge to name a few), but counting in all the time spent on the platform, the signal-to-noise ratio is very bad after all.
In addition the addiction factor is very high - the effort to open the app with just a glimpse of a second of free time is low, and the urge to do so is high. In the end you often get carried away and suddently you realize you’ve consumed way more than what you intended.
All this time could have been used to create something. Or to learn - the right way, with deeper background information. Through a book - or online in written form.
Therefore, I’ll remove the app from my devices and stop consuming mostly insignificant short videos as of today. That is my New Year’s resolution.
